The unseen photos of World War II

Zoom Archives is a digital monograph chronicling events from Italy's entry into the war until its liberation and the defeat of Germany.

The images, taken from American, German and Polish state archives, show us scenes of war and human affairs unknown in Italy: sometimes dramatic, sometimes "light," like the opening one showing a British army soldier bathing with the help of a fellow soldier in North Africa.

Zoom Archives is an innovative publication in the way it recounts historical facts, punctuating them with meaningful images and ample captions in a way that facilitates and guides reading; the work stems from the experience of Zoom's editorial staff, in the choice of photos and the highly edited graphics, together with the historical expertise of History& Photography.

The result is a book that can be read in one go despite the rich content of the 150 pages.

This issue of Zoom Archives is dedicated to an exhibition scheduled at the Glass House in Milan for the History& Photography - History told by Photography project.

Directed by Paolo Namias and curated by Alessandro Luigi Perna -journalist, history enthusiast and photography expert- the new initiative aims to enter the archives of public institutions, agencies, museums, associations, publishing houses, private individuals, photographers and companies with the intention of enhancing the "artistic jewels" of photography that they preserve by proposing them both to younger people and to insiders.

This is the beginning of a collaboration between Zoom Archives and History& Photography that will see the publication of a series of monographic issues dedicated to major historical events and changes in contemporary society over the past two centuries as seen through the exhibits of the project curated by Alessandro Luigi Perna himself and produced by Federica Candela's Eff&Ci Facciamo Cose.
